When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, the day-to-day joys of childhood take a back seat to the rigors of treatment and hospitalization. Starlight Children's Foundation Texas is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with serious medical conditions by providing entertainment, education and family activities that help them cope with the pain, fear and isolation of prolonged illness.
Hailing from Austin, TX, The Bright Light Social Hour deal a delicious mix of indie ingenuity, kinetic rhythms, and classic bare-assed rock power – balancing a big-blue-sky cinematic sound with the fun-loving humility of a dance party. Born out of a university art-rock collective, The Bright Light Social Hour has evolved into an unabashedly wide-screen rock group, melding classic rock energy and dynamics with funk, soul, and experimental influences.
The band's live performance is an explosive affair, full of thunderous drumming, soaring guitar and organ, deft bass work, and vivacious vocals. In October 2009, The Bright Light Social Hour won the Dell Lounge ‘Sound and Jury’ contest to play the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The band competed with over 1500 bands from around the world in multiple rounds of public and industry voting, culminating in a final battle of the bands at Antone’s Nightclub two nights before the kickoff of ACL. Supported by hundreds of their local fans, the band lit up the stage to a decisive victory, garnering a unanimous vote from industry judges.
